Abdullah Osman is an experienced finance and business strategy professional based in Edmonton, dedicated to mission and impact driven roles for effective community development.. Professionally, Abdullah has a strong background in strategic planning, financial oversight, and data analytics gained through experience in both the public and private sector

Ahsan is a senior finance professional having worked with both MNCs and small and medium businesses. He has volunteered previously with WildNorth and PCAE as a board member. Ahsan is excited to volunteer with IslamicFamily in a role where he can use his commercial finance skills to build strategies that will continue to develop the organization's donor base and continue to improve on the reporting, budgeting and forecasting to better serve the community clients.
Kevin Smith
Kevin Smith
Kevin, a University of Alberta graduate in Education, embraced Islam in 2019, finding inspiration in the Edmonton Muslim community. As the MLA and Constituency Staff Liaison at the Legislative Assembly of Alberta, Kevin brings expertise in communication, outreach, and team management. His leadership roles, including Board Member at the Muslim Association of Canada, have deepened his commitment to community service. Kevin aims to support IslamicFamily in creating inclusive spaces and enriching programs that connect people and foster spiritual growth.
Marwa Salah
Marwa Salah
Marwa is a Somali Muslim woman currently enrolled in the University of Calgary’s Faculty of Social Work. Through her studies, she is committed to building genuine connections with marginalized communities and supporting them through a strengths-based approach. In the summer of 2023, Marwa served as an intern with Edmonton’s first Civic Youth Fellowship, a program designed to introduce diverse youth to political spaces at City Hall. During the fellowship, she planned a community conversation focused on the lack of accessible resources for immigrant families and the impact of language barriers on accessing support. Her experiences in municipal political spaces deepened her commitment to social justice, equity, and representation. Through her role on the board of IslamicFamily, Marwa hopes to continue advocating for inclusive policies and systemic change that reflect the needs of marginalized Muslim communities in Edmonton.

President
Susan is an analyst with the Government of Alberta. She holds a Bachelor of Commerce and a graduate diploma in immigration law. In her role with the Ministry of Mental Health and Addiction, she works alongside leaders committed to addressing addiction-related challenges across Alberta. Susan is passionate about raising awareness of the struggles faced by Muslim youth, including those experiencing alcohol and drug addiction, often linked to unresolved family trauma and broader social challenges. She hopes to see more community-based programs that address the root causes of addiction, strengthen prevention efforts, and provide culturally responsive support for youth and families.
Trent Daley
Trent Daley
Trent Daley has been part of the Alberta Public Service since 2024 and focuses on building reconciliation into the foundation of his work in serving Albertans. Prior to working for the government, Trent volunteered and worked within the non-profit sector for over 5 years, serving in roles such as an Operations Manager and Caseworker. He has called Edmonton home since 2011 and is a 2020 graduate from the University of Alberta having completed a Bachelor of Arts, majoring in Sociology. Trent received an appointment for the Anti-Racism Advisory Committee to the City of Edmonton in February 2020 and served a term as Vice-Chair. Trent served as Vice President of the Alberta Hate Crimes Committee from 2022-2023. Trent received the Alberta Council for Global Cooperation’s Top 30 Under 30 in 2022 and CharityVillage’s award for Best Individual Contribution to Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion in the Workplace for 2022. In 2023 Trent was awarded the Top 40 Under 40 by Edify Magazine.

Yaqub is a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) with extensive experience in finance, accounting, strategy, operations, and community leadership. He has served as Director of Accounting, Acting CFO, and Corporate Finance Manager, where he led complex financial reporting, budgeting, and strategic initiatives. These experiences strengthened his ability to guide organizations through growth and operational change, enhance governance practices, and align execution with long-term strategic goals. Beyond my professional career, I am deeply committed to serving the Muslim community. I have volunteered with local mosques, provided free community seminars on financial literacy and career development, and hosted networking events to help professionals connect and grow. I also mentor Muslims pursuing careers in accounting and finance, helping them navigate their professional paths with confidence and purpose. In addition, I coach youth in Muslim sports leagues, using sports as a platform to build teamwork, discipline, and community spirit.

Ziad, a Professional Engineer with extensive expertise in energy policy and sustainability, holds degrees in electrical engineering and a double Master’s in smart grids and electricity markets. Currently leading policy consultations at ATCO, Ziad also serves as the Youth Wing Director for the Pakistan Canadian Association of Edmonton. His leadership focuses on empowering youth, addressing economic and food security, and fostering culturally sensitive initiatives like the Halal Housing Lab. Ziad is committed to leveraging his skills and network to create meaningful opportunities for the IslamicFamily community.

IslamicFamily has been an integral part of Omar’s service journey. Omar has worked in non-profit management, global development and for-benefit consulting. He holds an MBA and BSc from the University of Alberta, where he also teaches Corporate Sustainability to MBAs. Before joining as staff, Omar played a key role in the development of IslamicFamily's youth program, and partnership development. He is proud to have worked alongside exceptional leaders who helped the organization expand to serve more people in more ways and more places.

Lubna is a registered psychologist with a Master’s in Psychological Studies in Education from the University of Alberta, and a Counselling Certificate from Athabasca University. Lubna first joined IslamicFamily 12 years ago as a board member, and has provided cultural competency training to community leaders, governments, law enforcement and service organizations. She has been recognized for her outstanding volunteer commitment, and has been awarded the Athabasca Volunteer Service Award, the YMCA Peace Medal, and the Governor General's Sovereign Medal for Volunteers

Nafiaa Alokla is the Office Manager at IslamicFamily, bringing extensive expertise in financial administration, human resources, grant management, and nonprofit operations. With a strong background in settlement services, data analysis, and diversity and inclusion consulting, he is committed to creating sustainable solutions that empower individuals and strengthen communities. Fluent in Arabic and English, Nafiaa plays a key role in ensuring the efficiency of IslamicFamily’s programs and services, managing stakeholder relationships, and driving organizational growth. His leadership and dedication to supporting newcomers and vulnerable populations align with IslamicFamily’s mission to foster inclusivity and resilience.

Sumaira graduated with a degree in Human Ecology from the University of Alberta, and began her work with IslamicFamily two years ago. Currently, she is helping to grow IslamicFamily's volunteer base and establish long-lasting relationships with those who love to give back to their community. She is also the Creative Director of the brand Shubinak and loves all things handmade, eco-friendly and ethnic fusion.

Raj is passionate about service through leveraging technology for the greater good. He holds a BURPI in Urban and Regional Planning and a Certificate in Project and Product Management. He is also a Fellow at On Deck. Before joining IslamicFamily, Raj spent 6 years in the public sector with various organizations working as an urban planner and then transitioned into technology. He built a B2C mobile application that made it as one of top 20 most downloaded apps in Canada and built a B2B saas-based platform that raised 7 figures in funding.

Ibrahim is a passionate advocate for the integration of spirituality and mental health. Throughout his education, he has blended religious studies with training in spiritually-integrated mental health care and counselling. He holds a BA in Religious Studies, an MA in Islamic Studies and Christian-Muslim Relations, and a Graduate Certificate in Islamic Chaplaincy from the Hartford Seminary - the first graduate institution to offer accredited training in Muslim chaplaincy. Ibrahim is one of Canada’s only clinically-trained Muslim chaplains, having completed intensive training in spiritually-integrated mental health care and counselling. Ibrahim is presently pursuing a Masters in Social Work with a specialization in Community-Informed Practice for Health and Well-being.

Ray has been working in fundraising in the Canadian non-profit sector for over 5 years after "stumbling" on this beautiful path while studying industrial engineering. His focus and drive is to get community members excited about projects and to make visions come to life. Ray is passionate about helping people and bringing love, joy and faith to their lives. He is specifically passionate about international development, namely helping his home country, Lebanon.
